A big thank you to the board for all the work they do to make the club a fun place to play golf.

From the President

The 2008 Ventura Senior Cup was played in November.  There were about 24 different players from the Buena Seniors Club that participated this year.  The Olivas Senior men's club joined this year now there are six clubs competing for the Senior Cup.  The three courses that we played were River Ridge the Lakes course, Camarillo Springs and we finished up at Sterling Hills.

The Soule Park Seniors won the Cup for the third year in a row.

Next year event will be held at  Buena, Olivas, and Soule Park.

This event usually takes place in late October and early November, so look for the notice next year and sign up to play.   A lot of fun was had by all that played this year.

BMSGC TOURNAMENT CHAIRMAN AND WEB MASTER RETIRES

Jim Mirick, one of the founding members of the club, and our Tournament Chairman is retiring at the end of this year.  Jim has also been the web master for the club and has paid for the website over the years.  He is retiring from this position also and as a result the web site will no longer be available after the first of the year.  A big thank you to Jim for all the hard work he has given to the club over the years and we know he will be out playing with the best of us.  As you probably know he will retire with full pay from the club with cost of living adjustment over the years.

HANDICAP RELATED ISSUES

Two major items will be discussed in this issue of the “BSMGC Tee Times” as follows:

  1.  Restriction in the ability of Club members to view each others scoring record.
  2.   Change in the handicap index computation service provider in 2010.

Because of a “privacy related” lawsuit, the date a round was played by any USGA sanctioned golf club member is not viewable by the general public.  However, I, as your Handicap Chairman, have access to your records including the dates.  So, if you have a need for retrieving your records, let me know and I can download it from the PLGA website.

The Public Links Golf Association of Southern California (PLGASC) and five other Southern California golf associations will shift to receiving support for their handicap computing services to the USGA’s Golf Handicapping Information Network (GHIN) beginning January 2010. The current provider of this service, Integrated Data Company, will remain in place through 2009.

"We are excited by the prospect of linking with the largest provider of USGA Handicapping Services in the nation," says PLGASC Executive Director Craig Kessler, "and about the process of creating not only a seamless web among USGA-licensed golf associations here in Southern California, but a seamless connection to the vast majority of USGA-licensed golf associations throughout the United States."

Handicap Chairman

Pace of Play

For the past year the pace of play has improved and we have been playing in less than four and a half hours.  Keep up the good work.   Always play ready golf and keep an eye on the hole in front of you.  If the group in front of you is more than two strokes away it is time to pick up the pace.

Membership

We could use a few good men.  If you know somebody that is 50 years old or older why not invite them to come out and play a round of golf and meet the members.  Membership applications are available at the Golf Shop.

Course/Club Special Rules

When the course management performs plugging or greens or  fairways, and your ball comes to rest in one of these holes you may lift clean and place as close to the original spot without penalty.  Stones in a bunker are considered a moveable obstruction USGA rule 24.1 applies.  All other rules are governed by USGA Rules unless posted by the Tournament Director.

Our Next Special Tournament

Our next special tournament will be the Ron Ulreich Memorial Tournament.   The tournament will be held on the last Tuesday of February,
